2017 has marked the “year of the build” for Peace of Heart Home (POHH). Painstaking details to every inch of the blueprints have paid off. Peace of Heart Home was equipped with a walk-in cooler for garden produce, an activity room, a quiet room for typing and calming, a huge kitchen for doing life: preparing daily meals, canning garden vegetables, and cooking demonstrations, a hearth room with cozy sofas and lots of bench seating, a wing dedicated for house parents, wheelchair accessible showers and bathrooms, just to name a few!
Contractors embraced our project, often donating their time or giving materials at cost. The amount of gifts “in kind” neared $50,000. Gas lines were piped in at no cost, the custom granite countertops that adorn our kitchen and master bath were graciously donated, cement (our foundation) was provided at a drastically reduced price.
These are just a few ways our community partners have said “YES” to Peace of Heart Home. Such gifts are not only a validation that we are doing the right and necessary thing but they encourage us forward in our endeavors to be a prototype community…a model for others to follow.
2018 has been rightly dubbed “The Year of the HOME” for Peace of Heart Community.
We are on track for our home to open late spring/early summer. We are in the process of receiving our license with the state to provide much-needed programming for young women with autism so they can lead lives of meaning and independence.
As characterized by our logo, our central goal is to uphold the heart of the person with autism through community (the blue person) and sustainability (the green person). Peace of Heart is at the heart of all we do.
It is our sincere desire that you continue to share in this journey with us whether your gift is volunteering in the garden, stocking our pantry or home, purchasing our produce or art, or sharing your presence or talents with our home-mates. By coming alongside us, our dream of POHH can become a beautiful reality!
