2018 #GivingTuesday

November 27, 2018

Gentry recently typed the essence of HOPE, “… the belief that the light follows the dark.”

Standing on the edge of hope, the opening of Peace of Heart Home (POHH) right in time for the holidays, I could not agree more.  Four days prior to Christmas 8 long years ago Gentry and her soul sister Lanier entered into group home living.  There was no choice in the matter.  There was only one group home serving teenage girls with intensive behaviors in the Jacksonville area.  Even though it wasn’t what I wanted for Gentry, it was a gift as it provided the support she needed to live life and the primary need it met was her safety and the safety of those around her.  With those supports in place she has come so far.  She, Lanier and their non-verbal peers will soon have a home where they are not only safe but can thrive.  All persons deserve the right to communicate, and with our pillars of faith, community, and sustainability true belonging and a meaningful life can be a reality.

We are in need of our last big purchase, a van for our homemates.  I want to personally invite you into HOPE for 6 young women with autism whose lives have been riddled with isolation and misunderstanding.  We have raised $10,000 and need $15,000 more to make this last step of HOPE a reality.

Thank you in advance for engaging in the stories of 6 beautiful young women who have so much to offer our community!
